Collected Colt Romps To Six-Length Win In $100,000 Louisiana Stakes Race
Opelousas, Louisiana—The result of the $100,000 Evangeline Mile Stakes became a foregone conclusion just seconds after the Evangeline Downs starting gate released its eight runners on April 4, as speedster Perry County leapt to an early lead, mastered a ground-saving trip along the rail and cruised confidently to a six-length victory to become the 24th black-type winner from four crops for the Rancho San Miguel stallion Collected, the leading sire in California.
Sent postward as the 6-5 wagering favorite under jockey Tim Thornton, the 4-year-old colt relished the sloppy, sealed going, translating an opening half-mile effort in :46.72 into an unhurried final time of 1:38.59 for the mile distance. He was assigned a post-race Equibase Speed Figure of 102 for owner / trainer Veronica Litfin.
Perry County has earned $227,405 to date, with four wins and nine placings from 19 starts. He is the second stakes performer for Tyrannical, a winning daughter of Street Boss, and was bred in Kentucky by Shortleaf Stable.
He is one of three Northern Hemisphere stakes winners in 2026 for Collected, a Grade 1 winner by City Zip who is standing his first season in California at a fee of $7,500, and whose year-to-date progeny earnings top $1.5 million.
