Auburn, WA (July 21, 2019)-More Power to Him came from well back to beat El Huerfano in the $50,000 Mount Rainier Stakes on Sunday at Emerald Downs. He paid $10.20. The 1 1/16-mile race for 3-year-olds and up was the final local prep for the Grade 3, $200,000 Longacres Mile on Aug. 11 and anchored an all-stakes pick four that paid $961.70 for a 50-cent ticket.

It was the third win and second stakes victory on the day for jockey Kevin Orozco.

Breaking from the outside post in the eight-horse field, More Power to Him stayed outside while settling near the back of the pack early. He started to make his presence known midway on the second turn, continued his move going four wide coming out of the turn, and got up in the last few jumps to edge El Huerfano who had dueled with Oh Marvelous Me from the quarter pole. Oh Marvelous Me finished third.

“He wasn’t comfortable with the dirt hitting him early,” Orozco said. “Once I got him outside, he settled down and he just went around them on the second turn.”

The final time was 1:42.62.

More Power to Him is trained by Taylor Faith. The five-year-old horse by Slew’s Tiznow was bred in California by his owner, Brett Mason. He has six wins and $323,420 in earnings.
