Editorial Tallies Runaway First Winner From Initial California-Bred 2YO Crop

Del Mar, California—Eleanore’s Pick, a 2-year-old filly from the inaugural California foal crop sired by Rancho San Miguel stallion Editorial, made a memorable impression in her career debut on August 9, when she cleared a five-furlong sprint at Del Mar by 4 1/4 widening lengths.

Partnered with jockey Julien Leparoux for trainer Paul Aguirre, she was kept in contention throughout the $20,000 maiden claiming contest for California-bred fillies. After racing in second behind the early leader, she seized control in upper stretch and won convincingly in a final time of 1:00.21, leaving nine rivals in her wake.

Eleanore’s Pick earned $18,000 in her first outing for owners Metanoia Racing and John Crespy, doubling her purchase price of $9,000 from the 2025 Fasig-Tipton California Fall Yearlings Sale. She is the leading earner out of the winning Kitten’s Joy mare One Upper, and was bred by Rancho San Miguel.

The precocious filly is the second starter among 21 reported juveniles in the first California-bred crop of Editorial, a winning son of War Front who relocated from the East Coast to Rancho San Miguel prior to the 2023 breeding season. The half-brother to 2010 Champion 2-Year-Old Colt and important sire Uncle Mo boasts 78% winners overall from his first five crops to race, and stood for a $3,000 fee in 2026.
