Danzing Candy Scores Second Consecutive California Champion Juvenile

San Miguel, California—For the second consecutive year, the Rancho San Miguel stallion Danzing Candy has attained a state-bred champion runner. Yo Yo Candy, a graded stakes winner by the Twirling Candy sire, has been voted California Champion 2-Year-Old Male for 2023 by members of the California Thoroughbred Breeders Association.

Bred in California by Checkmate Thoroughbreds and campaigned by owners Tom and Kathy Lamont’s Happy Tenth Stable, Yo Yo Candy won two of five starts during his debut season of racing, topped by the $175,000 Sanford Stakes (G3) at Saratoga Race Course last July. The Daniel Velazquez trainee, whose dam is the Grade 1-placed multiple winner Yolanda B. Too, by Two Punch, earned $149,050 overall at 2.

In 2022, the Danzing Candy runner Giver Not a Taker was named California Champion 2-Year-Old Male in recognition of his two stakes victories in Southern California.

Multiple graded stakes winner Danzing Candy stands for a 2024 fee of $4,000 LFG at Rancho San Miguel, where he entered stud in 2018. His current sire statistics, including progeny updates, are available at Stallion Register Online.
